Anthropologists are increasingly developing their scholarship and careers online. For many, having a virtual presence through personal websites, social media, and collaborative research and outreach forums has become imperative. But what does it mean to have a presence—and do meaningful work—online? What forms may these engagements take? What possibilities and challenges do they introduce? And how exactly does one establish themselves online in a way that is appropriate to their research and professional goals? This workshop will explore these questions with a roundtable of panelists who have successfully taken their work online in anthropology and adjacent fields—both here at UNC and beyond the academy.
The event will be an interactive workshop. Students will be asked to think about specific issues and will provide questions for discussion.
